In a worrying incident on Monday in Kötzschau, Leuna, two unknown persons became violent when they attempted to break into a single-family home. The perpetrators climbed over the fence of the property on Schkeuditzer Strasse around 1:30 p.m. and hit a resident on the head with an object, causing her to temporarily lose consciousness. This shocking attack resulted in the woman being hospitalized while the perpetrators took the opportunity to search the house for valuables. Initial police investigations leave it unclear whether anything was actually stolen. An intensive manhunt with a tracking dog is already underway, but the burglars were able to escape undetected.
The local police authority has already secured initial leads and is questioning neighbors in the hope of finding relevant information. All witnesses are asked to call 0345/224-1291, especially anyone who may have noticed suspicious vehicles or people. The action has caused great unease in the community as such violent crimes severely affect the safety of residents.
Burglaries are increasing
The increasing numbers clearly show that burglaries have increased significantly, particularly in large cities, while rural regions appear relatively quieter. North Rhine-Westphalia has a particularly high rate of burglaries, with a rate of 98 burglaries per 100,000 inhabitants. Interestingly, however, 47 percent of break-in attempts are unsuccessful, mostly due to mechanical security measures, showing the importance of preventive measures.
