Thuringian Athlete of the Year: Choose your favorites by December 15th!

Today, November 5th, 2025, the election for the athletes of the year is in full swing in Thuringia. Fans can register online until December 15, 2025 www.thueringer-sportlerwahl.de cast their votes. The excitement is rising because the nominees from different sports couldn't be more different!

The women's candidates include Merle Fräbel, a talented luger from RT Suhl, and karate candidate Mia Bitsch from Bushido Waltershausen. Lisa Buckwitz, who competes in bobsledding for the BRC Thuringia, is also hoping for the votes of her supporters. Helen Hoffmann, who cross-country skis for WSV Oberhof, and mountain biker Nina Hoffmann are also there. The list is supplemented by Heike Naujoks from the Special Olympics Thuringia, Lena Oppermann (lifesaving), Hannah Riedel (karate), Elisa Sachse (snowshoeing) and Juliane Seyfarth (ski jumping) – all ready to win the election.

Men's and team candidates

The male athletes are made up of a variety of notable talents, including Nils Dunkel (gymnastics), Rico Haupt (figure skating) and Jonathan Hilbert (track and field). There are also biathlete Philipp Horn and luger Max Langenhan, both of whom were able to impress with excellent performances in their disciplines. Marek Leipold, Christian Monden, Justus Mörstedt and Johannes Voigtmann are also eligible and certainly have the necessary requirements to win the coveted award.

The teams category, which is dominated by strong teams, will be particularly exciting. Among the nominees are the Blue Volley Gotha (volleyball), the deaf athletes from Erfurt (curling) and the luge team around Hannes Orlamünder and Paul Gubitz. The handball teams Thüringer HC and ThSV Eisenach are also in the running, while the RSB Thuringia Bulls can hope for great support in wheelchair basketball.

Valuable prizes and honors

Committed sports fans can look forward to great prizes: participants in the voting have the chance to win a team weekend, shopping vouchers and tickets for exciting winter weekends. Casting your votes will be rewarded! The winners will be announced on December 19, 2025, while the celebratory award ceremony is planned for April 2026 in Erfurt.
