Tractor bursts into flames in Wallwitz – fire brigade on a large scale operation!
A fire in Wallwitz caused a stir on Tuesday afternoon. The emergency call came in at 1:10 p.m. when a tractor was ablaze in a field on Priest Weg. The 18-year-old driver, who was just cultivating the field, noticed a flash of flame coming from the engine compartment and acted quickly: he stopped the tractor, left the vehicle himself and immediately called the emergency number. Fortunately, the young man was uninjured while the tractor was completely burned out.
The fire brigade was quickly on the scene and deployed with 37 emergency services from the fire stations in Petersberg and Wettin-Löbejün. Despite their quick reaction, the tractor could only be declared a total loss; the material damage is estimated at around 300,000 euros. Police have started investigating the cause of the fire to find out what exactly led to the fire. However, the incident in Wallwitz was not the only one that made headlines on Tuesday. Just half an hour later, at 1:40 p.m., a serious traffic accident occurred at an unguarded level crossing in Langeneichstädt. A 74-year-old driver of a VW Caddy collided with a train. While the driver suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, the 15 passengers on the train were uninjured. The railway line was closed until the evening while extensive investigations were carried out. This involves investigating whether there is a dangerous interference with rail traffic. Presse Saxony-Anhalt informs about the incidents.
In addition, a death investigation is currently being carried out following an apartment fire in Halle (Saale), in which an 87-year-old man died after being taken to hospital. This sad development has also affected the local community.
