Robbery in Bernburg: 28-year-old brutally beaten down!
After a serious incident in Bernburg, the police are investigating the robbery that took place on Thursday evening around 8:23 p.m. in the area of the Hallesche Straße roundabout. A 28-year-old man was making his way towards Karlsplatz when he was approached by a group of people. He continued his walk unnoticed until an attacker suddenly knocked him down. The young man suffered a bruised face and fell to the ground. As a result, his personal jewelry and cash were stolen from his pocket. He immediately contacted the police and filed a criminal complaint. The perpetrator was described as a male, between 20 and 25 years old, wearing shorts and a light blue T-shirt. The other members of the group did not intervene, and neither the perpetrators nor their direction of escape could be identified in the area. The police are now looking for witnesses who can provide information about the incident. They can contact the Salzlandkreis police station by phone at 03471-3790.
Another incident occurred on Friday night when a break-in was reported at a daycare center on Schubertstrasse in Staßfurt. At around 4:34 a.m., security noticed two people on the premises of the facility. When the perpetrators saw the security guard, they immediately fled. During the inspection, a damaged window was discovered through which the intruders had sought access to the office. Apparently, however, they were disturbed in their plan and were able to escape without prey. Here too, the police have started investigations.
Burglary: An explosive trend
The situation surrounding burglaries in Germany has changed in recent years. According to Statista, there were around 119,000 thefts from apartments in 2023, with around 77,800 cases classified as residential burglaries. Despite an increase compared to previous years, this number is over 50% lower than the 2015 peak.
Urban states in particular, such as Bremen, Berlin and Hamburg, have the highest risk of burglary, while Bavaria has the lowest rates. In Mülheim an der Ruhr, the burglary rate in 2023 will be an alarming 283 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The clearance rate for residential burglaries in Germany was only 14.9% in 2023, while the overall rate for all crimes was 58.4%.
Important steps for those affected
A burglary is not just a material loss; it also affects the victims' sense of security. As Fachanwalt explains, anyone who falls victim to a burglary should inform the police immediately and not enter the apartment if there is a possibility that burglars are still there. It is advisable to make a list of stolen items and take photos of the damage.
In addition, affected households need to know that their household contents insurance only covers damage that was not caused by negligence, such as tilted windows. Burglary is a serious crime that can be punished in Germany with a prison sentence of up to ten years according to Section 244 of the Criminal Code.
