Last Thursday there was a serious incident on the federal highway 36, which was traveling in the direction of Bernburg. A semi-trailer caught fire after a tire burst while driving. Fortunately, the 61-year-old driver noticed the fire in time and was able to safely stop the vehicle on the hard shoulder so that he remained uninjured. This is reported by the Ministry of the Interior and Sport Saxony-Anhalt.
The fire department arrived quickly and was able to extinguish the fire. However, the fire caused significant property damage, which is in the high five-figure range. Both the trailer itself and the cargo – metal plates for automobile production – were affected. In addition, the road was severely affected by the heat.
Closure of the highway
Due to the rescue and cleaning work, the affected section of the highway will remain closed until the early hours of the morning. A local towing company was tasked with recovering the damaged vehicle. The situation remains tense for road users and they are advised to take alternative routes.
