The flow of money in Saxony-Anhalt is a source of plenty to talk about – and for good reason. In 2025, around 3.1 million euros are expected for the accommodation of ministry officials. The rent in the Ministry of the Environment has amounted to around 18.3 million euros since 2012. While the annual rent was 1.3 million euros in 2015, an increase to 1.6 million euros is expected for 2025. But it's not just these ministries that are causing a stir. The newly founded Digital Ministry is planning to spend over 1.3 million euros on office rent by the end of 2025, with annual costs of 406,000 euros for almost 2,000 square meters in the Elbe office.
Rental expenses and their consequences
In total, the rental expenses for the three responsible ministries will amount to around 40 million euros by 2025, all of which will be financed from tax revenue. Despite state-owned buildings that should be used as a priority, new offices continue to be rented, which fuels criticism from the Taxpayers' Association. This shows that the goals to reduce rental properties have been largely ignored. Long-term rental agreements and increasing space requirements contradict proper housekeeping, which is more important than ever these days.
The “Taxpayers Black Book” makes serious allegations and documents the proceeds of tax waste, while making a clear demand for more transparency in the handling of public money.
