A14 near Stendal: Construction progress despite delays – all information!

Something is happening in Stendal! The construction of the A14 is making progress, despite there being some delays. How MDR reports, the concreting of the road has begun and work has been going on diligently since the end of October. Two layers of concrete on asphalt are currently underway, so that the A14 roadway is now clearly visible.

The work extends from the new Stendal-Süd junction southwards and has the ambitious goal of progressing one kilometer every day. So far, the construction workers have managed between 800 meters and one kilometer per day, depending on the conditions. We work day and night, with only the weekends being a short break.

The A14 – an overview of a major project

This construction project is part of the largest new motorway construction project in Germany, which extends over around 155 kilometers through Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. How autobahn.de informed, the entire planning of the A14 was supported by a federal government with around two billion euros.

With the opening of the new section to traffic between the Tangerhütte and Lüderitz junctions, a significant gap will be closed. This means there is now continuous traffic for 30 kilometers between Magdeburg and Altmark. The A14 connection promises a noticeable improvement in accessibility for the Altmark and Prignitz regions and will relieve congestion on local thoroughfares such as the B189.

Andreas Trenkel, director of the East branch of Autobahn GmbH, emphasizes that the highway will increase people's quality of life and ensure public services. In addition, the A14 will become an important connection between central German economic areas and the Baltic and North Sea ports. Parliamentary State Secretary Daniela Kluckert is also clear about the social and economic importance of the route, describing the A14 as an outstanding project in federal highway construction.

Construction progress and outlook

Construction work began with the groundbreaking in summer 2018 and includes some exciting projects, such as 18 bridges and additional engineering structures. In total, a distance of 14.83 kilometers will be realized between Dolle and Lüderitz. In addition to concreting, work is also underway on ecological compensation measures, such as the revitalization areas of the Jävenitzer Moor, and over 1,000 compensation and replacement measures have already been implemented.

The aim of the current work is to concrete at least six kilometers of the carriageways by the end of the year. The original plan was to open the route to traffic before Christmas 2025. However, due to construction difficulties, completion must now be postponed to mid-2026. Progress remains heavily weather dependent; It would be ideal if it remained dry and frost-free so that work can proceed without interruptions.

All in all, the future of the A14 looks promising and could enable the entire region to flourish in terms of transport. Let's stay tuned to see how the work develops!
