Intoxicated against the wall: 20,000 euros in damage in the Bismark accident!

A quiet August day in Stendal on August 8, 2025 was marked by several incidents from the world of police. The 85-year-old owner of a Smart car reported the damage to his car, whose window was vandalized. Luckily nothing was stolen and the police have started an investigation to find the culprit. This act took place in the town of Borstel, like Magdeburg clicks reported.

But that wasn't all; There was a more serious incident in Kladen when a 56-year-old driver with a strong smell of alcohol left the road in a curve and crashed into a house wall. A breath alcohol level of 2.74 per mille shows once again how risky driving under the influence of alcohol is. The total damage is estimated at 20,000 euros, but fortunately there were no injuries.

Increasing number of accidents under the influence of alcohol

Relative to the current situation in Kladen, the Goslar Institute reported in an article about the alarming increase in alcohol-related traffic accidents in Germany. In 2022, 38,771 such accidents were recorded, an increase of 19 percent compared to the previous year. In addition, the number of road deaths is 2,782, an increase of 9 percent compared to 2021. These figures are a clear warning signal that the issue of drunk driving should be taken more seriously than ever.

The legal measures are clear: In Germany there is a blood alcohol limit of 0.5. There is a strict ban on alcohol for novice drivers and people under the age of 21. Violations can result in severe penalties, which can range from fines to points in Flensburg to driving bans. Goslar Institute emphasizes that if the blood alcohol level is over 1.1 per mille, the driver is considered absolutely unfit to drive, which can have significant legal consequences.

Another accident and a remarkable fire

On August 9, 2025, there was a traffic accident on the B189 between Osterburg and Seehausen after a 58-year-old Mercedes driver had to stop at the side of the road due to a technical defect. A Seat driver, 81 years old, noticed this too late and drove off without braking, causing the vehicles to be severely damaged and a 78-year-old passenger having to be flown to hospital with serious injuries. This shows once again how important it is to be careful on the road.

While the police were busy with these traffic accidents, the emergency services reported a fire in a silo in Belkau that same evening. The fire department was able to quickly extinguish the burning green waste, but the cause of the fire remains unclear and is the subject of criminal investigations.

Especially in summer, when many people use their cars for trips, it is particularly important to be aware of the dangers of driving under alcohol. According to Statista, the number of alcohol-related traffic accidents has seen a worrying trend from 1995 to 2024, indicating the ongoing need for education and prevention ( Statista reports ).
