Muddi from YouTube inspires 200,000 fans - donations for senior citizens' meeting!

In Stendal, the well-known YouTuber Dorothee Oesemann, better known as “Muddi” from the channel “Kochen mit Muddi”, is causing a stir. With the impressive number of 200,000 subscribers, it is celebrating a remarkable anniversary and is using this occasion for a special appeal for donations. Their goal is to repair the “heating house” of the Eckstein Social Diakonie, which had to close due to serious roof damage. To support this endeavor, Muddi has used her channel as a platform for donations, rather than personal gifts to her success.

As part of her celebrations, she invited Stefanie Kloft from Eckstein Sozialdiakonie to prepare a traditional Dresden-style Christmas stollen together. “This is more than just a baking campaign,” emphasizes Oesemann. “It’s about bringing the community together for a good cause.” The heating house, which served as a popular meeting place for over 60 seniors, girls and boys during Advent before it was closed, has a total area of 360 square meters. The renovation costs for the roof amount to a total of 180,000 euros, of which 45,000 euros have to be raised through donations.

The background to the fundraising campaign

The need for renovation is acute because the concrete roof from the 1980s is no longer load-bearing. Interested donors are invited to contact Samuel Kloft by email at samuel.kloft@clubeckstein.de. Oesemann's commitment not only shows her social responsibility, but also the power that social media can have in today's world to draw attention to urgent needs.

The use of platforms like YouTube has increased enormously in recent years. YouTube reports that 94% of teachers use the platform to support their lesson plans. At the same time, surveys show that 92% of viewers in the US use YouTube to get information. This makes it clear that Muddi also promotes far-reaching educational opportunities with her YouTube channel, even if in this case it involves a baking campaign.

The role of social media

The “Heizhaus” is not only a place for togetherness, but also an example of how digital public relations can achieve positive effects. This is also covered in seminars on digital communication and social media for social institutions. Akademie Süd offers, among other things, training on how to increase reach and create appealing contributions. Such courses are important to support social organizations in their public relations work and to strengthen their communities.

Muddi's initiative is a great example of how influencers and social networks can work hand in hand to advance social issues and raise awareness of local needs. In times when more and more people are forming online communities, this could be the way social institutions find additional support in the future to keep their important projects alive.

In the next few weeks it remains to be seen how much support Muddi can collect for the “Heizhaus”. The mixture of cooking, community and helpfulness is a successful recipe for positive change.
