Rapid speed: 412 drivers in Stendal catch speed offenders!

Road safety is an important issue that affects us all. In the period from August 1st to 8th, 2025, the police authorities in Stendal were able to detect several violations of the speed limit on the federal highway 14, near the Wolmirstedt exit. 412 vehicles were registered at excessive speeds, often exceeding the maximum permissible speed of 60 km/h. What was striking was the fastest among the drivers - he was measured at 107 km/h, a value that clearly exceeds the permissible limit. These measures are part of the Europe-wide ROADPOL “Speed” control week, which took place from August 4th to 10th and aimed at raising road users' awareness of the dangers of speeding. As Magdeburg-klickt reports, a total of 2,648 vehicles were affected by the checks, with 297 speeding violations detected.

But safety is not only important on motorways. On August 13, 2025 at 12:40 a.m., the police pulled a 35-year-old driver out of traffic in Stendal, Bergstrasse. She had clearly consumed too much alcohol and had a breath alcohol test result of 0.65 per mille. This resulted in misdemeanor proceedings and she was not allowed to continue driving her vehicles. Such individual cases show that police traffic controls are more than necessary to ensure greater safety on the streets.

“Get off the gas” campaign

The ROADPOL inspection week was held under the motto “Easy off the gas – for more safety on our roads!” carried out. As the press portal reports, the goal was to reduce the number of serious traffic accidents due to excessive speed. The police found that speeding is still one of the main causes of accidents. In this context, the police appeal to all road users to drive with foresight and adhere to speed limits.

ROADPOL itself is a major European network dedicated to reducing road accident casualties. Under the slogan “Cross borders to save lives!” As explained on the [NRW Police] website (https://polizei.nrw/artikel/roadpol-european-roads-policing-network), ROADPOL aims to sustainably improve road safety through coordinated measures in national and European campaigns. The initiative brings together traffic police from EU member states to exchange their experiences and work together in a targeted manner.

The current traffic accident statistics show that such measures are long overdue. The need for continuous speed enforcement and prevention is becoming increasingly clear. The police will therefore have to continue their work in the area of traffic surveillance in the future in order to make road traffic safer.
