Steinmeier in Neuruppin: insights, conversations and awards!

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is moving his official residence to Neuruppin, Brandenburg, for three days from Tuesday. From July 1st to 3rd, 2025, the President will conduct his official business in the city with around 32,000 inhabitants on the picturesque Ruppiner Lake. The reason for this special visit is the “Local Time Germany” series, which aims to talk directly to people and listen to their concerns. The first stop in Brandenburg, to Senftenberg, showed how important such visits are for the connection between politics and citizens, emphasizes Steinmeier. He would like to use the opportunity to exchange ideas with the citizens of Neuruppin as well as with political representatives. This is also very important for local politics, because Mayor Nico Ruhle is happy about the opportunity to present Neuruppin and hold discussions.

But what exactly is on the agenda? The coming days are filled with exciting activities. Steinmeier will, among other things, visit the Neuruppin canoe club and take a dragon boat trip on Lake Ruppiner. Another highlight will be the open-air reading with Lisa Kränzler, winner of the Fontane Literature Prize. A visit to the contemporary art gallery “Kunstraum Neuruppin” is also on the list, as is a visit to Automationssysteme Leske GmbH, which deals with the development of industrial plants. These activities show the multifaceted nature of the city and allow the president to get a feel for the local conditions and the people who live there.

Diverse encounters

During his three days in Neuruppin, Steinmeier will not only visit companies and cultural institutions, but will also actively engage in discussions with citizens. Discussion rounds are planned, including one in the “Multi-Generation House in the Krümelkiste”, where current developments in Neuruppin will be the focus. A technical discussion in the district court will deal with the serious issue of domestic violence. He will also meet some students at the Ruppin-Brandenburg University Hospital and at the Brandenburg Medical School, which underlines the educational aspect of his trip.

A very special highlight will be the awarding of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, which will take place on July 3rd at 2:00 p.m. in the Kulturkirche Neuruppin. Seven outstanding citizens who are involved in various areas such as supporting children and youth, supporting older people and integration work will be honored. The celebrations are held as part of the “Neuruppin local time” and are intended to honor the commitment of citizens to their community.

A view of the city

Neuruppin has made a name for itself as the birthplace of important personalities such as Theodor Fontane, Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Eva Strittmatter. The city, dotted with classical architecture, attracts many visitors and is known for its idyllic location on Lake Ruppiner. It is the 16th stop in the “Local Time Germany” visit series, which has already visited numerous other cities such as Delitzsch, Stendal, Weiden and Rottweil. Steinmeier is convinced that exchange and personal encounters are of great importance for our democracy.

We can look forward to the results of this time in Neuruppin when the Federal President and the citizens really start talking!
