Storm leaves its mark: Omexom modernizes the power grid in Stendal!

The air and light in the Altmark changed after the violent storm at the end of June. According to a report from Stendal district the power grid is significantly affected. This makes the reliable partner Omexom Bauservice Nord, which is responsible for line and network construction in the region, all the more important. Patrick Puhlmann, the district administrator, recently personally saw the work of the company during his summer tour in Schollene, which is modernizing the local power grid on behalf of the network operator Avacon.

Henning Scherping, area manager of Omexom, explained the need for regional specialization in the Altmark. With its 4,000 employees in Germany, which belong to the Vinci Energies group, Omexom is an indispensable partner for network operators, especially in times of disruptions that endanger energy supplies.
It is particularly pleasing that the location in Boock, which has been part of the Omexom family since 2020, has grown to around 30 employees and regularly takes part in training and internship fairs as well as returnees' day in the district.

Commitment to the environment

But what does Omexom bring to the renewable energy sector beyond the regional projects? The protection of flora and fauna also plays a crucial role here. As the The Agility Effect describes, Omexom is supporting the network operator TenneT in an innovative project in northern Germany, where a new 380 kV line from Emden to Conneforde is planned. This building extends over the Stapeler Moor nature reserve. In order to protect the sensitive habitat of the animal species that live there, Omexom uses environmentally friendly techniques that do not endanger the construction work.

The construction work must be carried out during certain periods and Omexom has specially designed a construction road that meets nature conservation requirements. These challenges show how important it is to treat nature prudently while at the same time pursuing a central goal of the German Energy Industry Act: a sustainable, economical and climate-friendly energy supply.

Energy supply security in focus

This commitment to the region and the environment fits perfectly with Germany's general strategy. The Federal Ministry of Economics emphasizes that energy security is a key concern. The aim is to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while at the same time promoting the expansion of renewable energies. Germany is aiming for climate neutrality by 2045. The share of renewable energies in primary energy consumption was already around 20 percent in 2024 and will continue to rise.

But the challenge remains, especially when you consider that Germany is heavily integrated into international markets and will continue to be dependent on imports until the transition to sustainable forms of energy is complete. To this end, utility companies such as Omexom are required to manage the restructuring of the energy infrastructure carefully and responsibly. This responsibility not only lies on the shoulders of companies, but also requires close cooperation with the state, especially in crisis situations.
