Super women in Saxony-Anhalt: 25 years of FrauenOrte celebrate success!
Today, October 28, 2025, the project “Women’s Places – Women’s History in Saxony-Anhalt” is celebrating a very special anniversary. 25 years ago, the first of a total of 52 plaques commemorating the life achievements of courageous women in Saxony-Anhalt was inaugurated in the “Rotkäppchen” daycare center in Zörbig. This remarkable project aims to make visible the history of women who have shaped society through their achievements. Saxony-Anhalt was able to proudly point to 37 cities and municipalities in which these boards are set up.
At the anniversary celebration in the Halle town hall, Equal Opportunities Minister Petra Grimm-Benne did not miss the opportunity to congratulate the pioneers of the project. In her speech, she emphasized the important role that such visibility plays in historical consciousness. Especially that of the project founder Dr. Elke Stolze, the Courage e.V. association. V. Halle and the project coordinator Anke Triller were thanked for their tireless efforts. Dr. Stolze emphasized the importance of bringing women's history into greater public awareness in order to close a gap that is often overlooked.
A pioneering project with impact
The “Women’s Places” project began as part of EXPO 2000 and is now considered a pioneer in the perspective of women’s history. It is pleasing to see that this initiative has been well received and has also been taken up by several federal states. After all, Saxony-Anhalt has been supporting this valuable work with around 50,000 euros annually for over 20 years. This demonstrates the country's commitment to highlighting women's achievements and giving them the recognition they deserve.
At a time when equality and the visibility of women's rights are more in focus than ever, the project remains an inspiration. This approach to shedding light on women's lives and stories is likely to continue to be of great importance in the future. It shows how important memory and recognition are in promoting a balanced and just society.
