Preparations for the Christmas markets in Germany are in full swing, and while Halle has a comprehensive security concept in place, there are still important questions regarding approval in Magdeburg. On November 12, 2025 at 6:00 a.m., the city of Halle learned that it had invested around 600,000 euros for its Christmas market to ensure the safety of visitors. MDR reports that ... The city is happy to be well prepared, especially compared to Magdeburg, where responsibilities are still unclear.
An important part of the hall concept are access barriers for vehicles up to 7.5 tons. This measure is crucial to making the event safe. In addition, lock systems are used to secure tram access. Ultimately, this means that the tram can only go to the markets in consultation with police forces and private security services.
Safety in focus
A ban on carrying knives during the Christmas market should also ensure greater safety. The police, public order office and private security services will be present throughout the market. Critical tram access routes have received particular attention. The security concept includes modern systems, such as the Oktablock TR, which is considered extremely effective.
In Magdeburg, however, there are still uncertainties. Inquiries regarding necessary improvements were sent to the State Administration Office of Saxony-Anhalt, which meant that approval for the Christmas market was temporarily suspended. The city is currently struggling to obtain clear approval, while responsibilities for security measures are still poorly understood. A crisis meeting between the city and the state is planned for next Wednesday to clarify these questions.

In the meantime, the Christmas markets in other cities, such as Munich, are casting their shadow. Various events are offered here, from a traditional Christmas market at Marienplatz to a winter festival at Theresienwiese. Advent activities in Munich range from a large nativity scene market to live music and children's workshops.
