Urgent recall: Dangerous grilled sausages in supermarkets!

This week, an important recall was launched in several supermarkets, including Rewe, Edeka, Kaufland and Penny. Ready meals are affected, in particular the “roast sausages with mashed potatoes and wine sauerkraut”, which are produced by the Zwanenberg Food Group and Sonnen Bassermann GmbH. According to Chip.de the reason lies in increased concentrations of Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA) in the marjoram of the affected products.

Consumers should definitely not consume the marked product, which has the batch number L 509410552 and the best-before date of June 5, 2026. Affected buyers are encouraged to contact the manufacturer directly. By simply sending an email to info@sonnenbassermann.nl, providing a photo of the product as well as your contact details and the best-before date, you can receive a refund.

Health risks from pyrrolizidine alkaloids

The warning is not without reason: pyrrolizidine alkaloids are compounds known for their health risks. Although they can occur naturally in many plants, there is a risk that they can damage the liver and potentially alter the genetic makeup. According to FNP, particular attention is drawn here to the genotoxic and carcinogenic potential of PA, which experts classify as serious.

The situation is particularly critical for children, pregnant women, breastfeeding women and people who consume large quantities of foods containing PA. The consumer advice center points out that PAs can get into food unintentionally, often through harvested herbs. Products such as tea, herbs, salad and certain dietary supplements are often affected, reports the Consumer Center.

But it’s not just the “roast sausages with mashed potatoes” that are affected. Also other brands like Wingert Foods, K Classic and yes! are subject to recall. Here is an overview:
