a sign against discrimination

The CSD in Wittenberg comes at a time when the Queere Community is visible in Germany, especially in the eastern federal states. Many smaller CSDs in Germany have already taken place nationwide in 2024, including cities such as Angermünde and Gelsenkirchen. This year over 200 events have been announced that celebrate and demand the variety and rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

The origins of the CSD go back to the violent uprising in the Stonewall Inn in New York City in 1969. From there, one of the largest emancipation movements worldwide developed, which continues to this day. The first German CSD parade took place in Berlin in 1979 and now this day has developed into a colorful festival, which is particularly political weight. However, there are always voices that criticize the increasing commercialization and want more independence.
