Kewaunee in the final: Can the underdogs win the state title?

The most exciting day for the Kewaunee High School baseball team is just around the corner. On June 19, 2025, the team will be fighting for the coveted state title. The venue is Fox Cities Stadium in Wisconsin, where the team with an impressive 18-5 season record will face main rival Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic. The latter also qualified with strong performances as the #1 seeded team and brings an impressive history of four state titles.

Kewaunee fought its way through the tournament impressively and eliminated two seeded opponents. The team defeated #2 seed Fennimore 5-3 in the sectional semifinals after Brett Paulsen excelled in pitching and recorded eight strikeouts. Player Brandy Pribek contributed one of the key moments with a decisive two-run triple in the fourth inning. “We took advantage of our chances, especially due to the mistakes in the opponent’s defense,” said coach Dan Spranger.

The path to the final

To reach the championship match, Kewaunee triumphed over Chilton 1-0 and narrowly beat Wittenberg-Birnamwood 6-5 in the sectional final. In order to make the grand finale, they have been underdogs in the last three meetings and it will be exciting to see if they can hold their own against the undefeated Kenosha St. Joseph.

Kenosha, which beat Barron 14-4 in the state semifinals, has looked strong and is posing a real challenge. While fans consider them favorites, Kewaunee has worked hard on their weaknesses in recent days and has set out to improve fundamentals like bunting. After all, you won't be crowned for your historic performance during the season, but on the day of the game!

The grand finale

The final kicks off today at 12:00 p.m. at Neuroscience Group Field in Fox Cities Stadium. “We're going into the game as usual, as if nothing was different,” Coach Spranger explained, indicating the team's calm, focused mentality. The team has improved enormously in the last few weeks and will give everything to bring the title to Kewaunee.

Kewaunee High School is ready and the whole town is keeping its fingers crossed. Let's go, Kewaunee! The entire nation is eagerly watching as this exciting chapter in the history of school sports continues to unfold.
