Nabu and Weyhe start flowering project for biodiversity!

In Weyhe something is happening in the field of nature conservation! An exciting pilot project between the municipal administration and the nature conservation association (NABU) now starts in the Sudweyher Marsch. The aim of the project is to better capture the valuable habitats on the edge of the route in order to support the building yard in mowing and to promote biodiversity. Because as reports Kreiszeitung.de, these outskirts play a decisive role in the animal and fauna. Since 2024, the building yard has been less intensive for supporting biodiversity.

The project focuses on seven specific paths: including Bruchweiden, Kreienbarg, Apelsdamm, Sudweyher Bruch, in the field and two branches. Overall, the network of paths in Weyhe extends over more than 300 kilometers and comprises over 600 kilometers of route side edges, which are only among the municipal roads. The first inventory was already carried out by NABU activists such as Andreas Müller and Dorothea Janßen. Impressive 46 different flower plants were discovered on a 1,000 meter long section - from nettles to interesting wild plants such as basket blooms.

networking of habitats

But what is behind this action? The route side edges are not only green areas, but also act as important habitats for many animals and plants. They network biotopes and offer retreats for bird species, field hares and vineyards - a clear profit for biodiversity. The municipality of Weyhe intensively promotes this with its cooperation with NABU, as weyhe.de describes.

The first mapping shows a variety of vegetation. It is all the more important to adapt the maintenance of the route side rooms. After the plant inventory, targeted recommendations for sustainable care are developed. An interesting concept could be an insect -friendly mowing process, but this is associated with higher costs. In addition, the disposal of the MAHDGUT is a challenge, since it has no longer been used in biogas plants since a change in law in 2014. This waste problem must also be taken into account in order to find long -term solutions.

educational work for the future

The pilot project not only serves tests, but also to clarify the advantages of less well -kept side edges. Nabu and the municipality of Weyhe plan to work together to inform the citizens about the positive effects of a rich living space. A "unkempt" look could make the paths look more natural and let the biodiversity bloom - in the sense of today's nature conservation movement.

The integration into larger nature conservation projects is also exciting. The "Chance.natur" funding program supports such projects and makes a significant contribution to the preservation of natural landscapes. Every year, 12.8 million euros flow into these projects, from which Weyhe could also benefit, as bfn.de reports.

The commitment to nature in Weyhe shows that it is time to protect and promote the valuable habitats. It is important to prove a good hand in maintaining our landscapes!
