Serious accident on B100: 19-year-old injured in crash with tree!

On the night of Wednesday, September 18th, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred on the B100 between Radis and Kemberg in the Wittenberg district. A 19-year-old driver, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz, left the road in a long left-hand bend for unknown reasons. The vehicle first hit an auxiliary structure on a freshly planted tree before colliding head-on with a maple tree on the left side of the road. The driver was seriously injured in this terrible accident and was trapped in the wreckage, which required an extensive rescue operation. After his rescue, he was flown to a clinic in a rescue helicopter. His car was totaled, the damage is estimated at around 30,000 euros, and the vehicle had to be towed.

But this accident is not the only worrying incident on the region's roads. In another traffic accident on the B100 in Greifenburg, a 39-year-old man was involved at the wheel of an oncoming vehicle. There was a side collision, which resulted in him losing control of his car. As a result, the vehicle turned 180 degrees and collided with a 55-year-old motorcyclist, who was thrown into the ditch. The 39-year-old's car remained on its roof in the ditch, while the motorcyclist had to be taken to the Spittal/Drau hospital with injuries. The 39-year-old, his five-year-old passenger and two other passengers also had to be taken to Lienz Hospital with injuries.

Emergency response and road safety

The B100 was completely closed in both cases during the accident investigation and the subsequent rescue work. In Greifenburg, the fire brigades from Greifenburg and Hauzendorf were on duty with three vehicles, the rescue service and the rescue helicopter “Christophorus 7”. Such multiple accidents within a short period of time shed light on road safety in the region and the need for widespread awareness of road users about the dangers on the roads.

According to current statistics from the Federal Statistical Office, traffic accidents are also a serious problem in Austria. In 2022, over 2.5 million traffic accidents were recorded, which led to serious injuries and even deaths. It is essential to focus attention on road safety and take preventive measures to avoid such tragic incidents in the future.

Everyone involved in the two accidents suffers from injuries of an undetermined degree, while the 63-year-old driver of another vehicle in Greifenburg fortunately remained uninjured. Between these incidents and the need to increase road safety, we must ask ourselves: How can we prevent dangerous situations on our roads? A good hand at raising awareness and educating drivers could be the key.
