An important day for democracy in Saxony-Anhalt! Today, November 6th, 2025, the 30th anniversary of the Parliamentary Association of Saxony-Anhalt was celebrated in Magdeburg. V. celebrated. Numerous former and active MPs came together at a celebratory ceremony, including parliamentarians from eleven federal states. The prominent guest speaker, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, former President of the Bundestag, gave a thoughtful speech about the achievements and challenges of parliamentary democracy in Germany.

“The state of democracy in Germany and around the world is an issue that is alarming,” Lammert explained, pointing to the declining number of functioning democracies since the 1990s. In his address, he highlighted that extremist parties could pose a threat to the democratic system if they gain support. “We must be actively involved in political parties to defend democracy,” he told those present.

A look back at 30 years of parliamentary work

The Parliamentary Association of Saxony-Anhalt e. V. was founded in 1995, after the state parliament's first electoral term, and was renamed in October 2019.
