Mühlentag 2025: Discover the treasures of the mills in the Rhineland!

Burscheid, Deutschland - On June 9, 2025, the nationwide mill day takes place for the 32nd time. On this day of action, numerous mills, most of which are privately owned, open their goals for interested visitors. The event was launched by the German Society for Mühlenkunde and Mühlenwahrt to draw attention to the cultural asset mill. The aim is to put the mill technology and the social importance of the mills into the awareness of the public.

The Rhineland Mühlen region extends between the rivers, Wupper and Sieg and offers insights into the historical craft. This includes demonstrations of grinding, hammer work technology and the use of hydropower. Visitors can not only admire how grain, oil and much more has been processed in the past, but also learn the cultural history that is connected to these systems.

The mill day on Whit Monday includes a wide event program. Simp, refreshing drinks and freshly baked mill bread are served on the participating mills. The activities include thematic tours, hikes and bike tours. Particularly noteworthy is the bike tour of the ADFC Rheinberg-oberberg e.V. , which is offered along the Eifgenbach and the Dhünn. The tour starts at the Alter Bahnhof restaurant in Burscheid and leads to newemühle before it ends in Burscheid.

A regional program for comprehensive information is available for download and can also be requested as a print version about the Landscape Association Rheinland (LVR) . The mills are open on the mill day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition, there are special events, such as the ground monument excursion on the subject of "powder mills in the Dhünntal" near Altenberg and a bike tour from Bergisch Gladbach to the Gammersbacher Mühle. The program is also informed about the paper mill Alte Dombach in Bergisch Gladbach: Here the program starts at 12 noon with a guided tour in which the use of hydropower is shown.
