Steam train adventure in the Nördlinger Ries: Railway festival is waiting!
Nördlingen, Deutschland - On May 29, 2025, a special steam train ride to Nördlinger Ries will take place, which is organized by DBK Historisches Bahn e.V. Passengers await a trip to one of the best preserved medieval imperial cities in Germany, Nördlingen. The city is known for its imposing city wall, which extends over 2.6 kilometers and is supplemented by five towers and eleven goals. This historical excursion falls together with the railway festival, which is celebrated in the Bavarian Railway Museum (BEM) in Nördlingen.
The Bavarian Railway Museum was founded in the former railway depot in Nördlingen at the end of 1985 and pursues the goal of making a realistic railway operable. Over 100 original vehicles, including 25 steam locomotives, can be admired in the exhibitions. The numerous restored track systems and workshops convey the flair of past ironbone eradition to visitors. A special focus is on the steam locomotive 7 "Füssen", which will find special attention as a operational copy of a "home treasure".
steam locomotive with history
The steam locomotive 7 "Füssen" has a long and varied story. Originally used for the local train from Marktoberdorf to Füssen in the Ostallgäu, it was implemented around the turn of the century to the route from Weingarten to Baienfurt. The fate of the locomotive on 1928 followed the sale to a paper mill in Baienfurt. There it served as a reserve for diesel -powered trains for a long time before it was won in 2002 as a loan for BEM. Finally, it was purchased in 2008. In addition to the Bavarian S 3/6 3673, it is now one of the figureheads of the BEM and was recognized on July 13, 2018 as one of the 100 "homelands".
Visitors to the BEM can therefore look forward to an exciting connection between the historic steam train ride and a fascinating railway festival. During the festival, the technology of the early local railways comes to life and offers a unique experience that inspires young and old alike.
