Danger! Shock calls spread fear in the Bautzen district!
In the last few days we have been receiving worrying news from the Bautzen district, especially from the cities of Hoyerswerda and Kamenz. A wave of so-called shock calls is spreading, with scammers posing as police officers or relatives. According to reports from Sächsische.de and polizei.sachsen.de, callers report alleged accidents involving relatives. It is often claimed that someone has been involved in a fatal accident and that deposits of between 5,000 and 130,000 euros are urgently required.
The perpetrators use various pretexts to unsettle and pressure their victims. As the Federal Criminal Police Office warned in a report as early as 2023, this should cause those called to sweat and hand over large sums of money without thinking. The BKA strongly advises you to end such calls immediately and never hand over cash or valuables to strangers.
Police action and prevention
The police have urged citizens to be vigilant. “End suspicious calls immediately” is a warning often heard. In addition, the police make it clear that they never ask for cash over the phone. Rather, any contact that exerts financial pressure should be reported immediately.
Another significant detail here is the fraudsters' strategy: They put their victims under a lot of pressure by often causing a “deposit” to be paid in order to avert the worse consequences of an alleged accident. The police recommend contacting relatives using known telephone numbers to check the authenticity of the situation.
Further incidents in the district
On the same day, other relevant incidents also occurred in the district. There was a traffic accident in Bad Muskau in which a 78-year-old driver crashed her car into a house wall. She suffered minor injuries and had to be taken to hospital. In addition, an air rifle was fired from a balcony in Görlitz, which fortunately did not result in any injuries.
In summary, citizens in Bautzen, Hoyerswerda and the surrounding area should be very careful at the moment. Fraudsters' calls can lead to severe insecurity in stressful situations. Stay alert, stay informed and, if in doubt, do not hesitate to contact the police.
