Construction work on B156: Sdier remains accessible until August – bakers in need!

In Großdubrau, the Richter bakery is facing major challenges amid construction work on federal highway 156. However, the popular connection to the region will be maintained via the road connection from Brehmen and Weißwasser until the end of August 2025. This gives the residents and loyal customers some breathing room while the State Office for Road Construction and Transport (Lasuv) starts the extensive expansion work from March 10th, which extends over a length of around 3.5 kilometers northeast from Niedergurig to Sdier, as lasuv.sachsen.de reports.

The planned construction measures include the renovation of the road both in the town thoroughfares of Zschillichau and Sdier and outside of the towns. The new road will be 7.50 meters wide and will have a 2.50 meter wide cycle path. The renewal of two otter culverts is also on the agenda. Overall, the construction work is expected to last until July 2026, divided into several construction phases. The first section, which extends from the B156 Joercksberg entrance to Zschillichau, is scheduled for the period from March to June 2025.

Construction site with extensive impacts

When construction work begins, the Sdier through town will be completely closed from the intersection at the Heidefarm to the northern exit of the town. Martin Richter, the owner of the bakery, describes the situation as an existential challenge for his company, which has been in family hands since 1876. The construction work means that he will have to severely restrict his opening hours and possibly order short-time work. “Unfortunately, we also have to consider the possibility of redundancies for operational reasons,” said Richter, who is also in constant communication with the authorities. He draws attention to the importance of accessibility for his customers. More information on this can be found at grossdubrau.de.

The total investment for the construction project amounts to around 9.35 million euros, financed by the budget of the Federal Republic of Germany. During the full closures, residents in both Sdier and Zschillichau will always be reachable. The diversions for traffic are well planned: For Zschillichau the diversion is via the S109, while for Sdier the K7211 leads to Klix and the S101 leads through Särchen.

A look at the future

For Martin Richter, the situation is not only a challenge, but also a look back at the tradition of the bakery, which will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026. His sister Marie, who has been working at the company since the beginning of 2023, brings fresh ideas and know-how, which could potentially open up new perspectives for the bakery.

The current accessibility during the construction work represents a small ray of hope that allows customers to continue to buy their usual products. Despite the certain uncertainty that the construction site brings with it, Richter hopes for the solidarity of his customers and a good hand in overcoming the challenges that lie ahead.
