Bautzen: Nardt fire brigade school is planning a large hall for 80 million euros
In Saxony the signs point to expansion: The Nardt fire brigade school near Hoyerswerda is planning to significantly expand its infrastructure in order to meet new challenges in fire brigade-specific training. The goal? A modern multi-purpose hall that is intended to give the training conditions a fresh twist. A total of around 80 million euros is estimated for this, with around 50 million euros being allocated to the hall alone. These numbers were already mentioned in 2023 by the former headmaster Markus Morgenstern.
But what about the implementation? There is currently no clear time frame as to when construction can begin. The Ministry of Finance, for its part, has refused the green light, which is prolonging the expansion. Jens Hentschel-Thöricht, spokesman for the BSW parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament, has already made a small question in this regard and criticizes the ongoing delays. “We need planning security!” emphasizes Hentschel-Thöricht, making it clear that the necessary investment in training and safety is urgently needed in order to strengthen the future viability of the fire department in Saxony. More space for training
The expansion plans for the state fire brigade school are almost completed. The demand for training places has risen sharply, not only for fire service requirements, but also for disaster control and forest firefighting. To meet this need, various new facilities are planned:
- Eine Halle für witterungsunabhängige feuerwehrtechnische Ausbildung
- Eine Sporthalle
- Ein Atem- und Körperschutzzentrum
- Ein Empfangs- und Servicecenter
- Garagen und Werkstätten
The planned multi-purpose hall is intended to enable training under modern conditions and thus significantly improve the training of firefighters. Tag24 informs about...
Concerns surrounding historic buildings
The demolition of the last original barracks of the former Elsterhorst prisoner of war and displaced persons camp could pose a challenge. This barracks, which stands on the site of the fire brigade school, has housed an exhibition and documentation center on the history of the place since 2011. Kerstin Noack, director of the Hoyerswerda City Museum, expresses concerns that the demolition could erase important historical memories. Your suggestions for integrating the exhibits elsewhere have not yet been accepted. This raises the question of how the city wants to deal with its past while at the same time requiring modern training facilities.
The need to expand the fire department school is abundantly clear. But the Ministry of Finance has not yet published any information about schedules and investment costs. Public demand and pressure to clarify the situation are increasing. Tours through the history of the Elsterhorst camp take place monthly, including the next one on June 9th. Citizens are invited to reflect on the past and actively pursue the development of their region.
Overall, it remains to be seen how the Saxon state government will react to the situation, because the need for reliable investments in security and training can no longer be ignored. LFS Sachsen offers...
