Drug test on the A4: Police catch Polish driver without a license!
On August 31, 2025, a police ticker will provide fresh reports from the Bautzen district and show once again how important traffic safety is in the region. Large-scale checks have taken place in recent weeks, with the police particularly investigating drug abuse while driving. On Thursday alone, with over 400 vehicles checked and more than 500 people checked, ten criminal offenses and 39 administrative offenses were identified. The focus was on detecting drugs in traffic.
A recent incident on the A4 at the Löbauer Wasser rest area highlights the urgency of the controls. A 36-year-old man from Poland was stopped here, apparently under the influence of amphetamine. For the driver, who was also driving without a valid driving license, a blood sample had to be ordered and he was forbidden to continue driving. This measure is part of the motorway police's intensive efforts to increase road safety. According to Sächsische, reliable controls are needed more than ever, as there were over 2,000 accidents in Saxony last year Drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol were counted.
Safety in focus
The police have recognized that in order to improve road safety, not only traffic accidents but also the causes such as drug abuse and impaired driving must be addressed. During the most recent checks, several drivers were apparently severely impaired by medication. These practices demonstrate a focus on prevention and the police are taking decisive action against drivers who endanger road safety.
As [MDR](https://www.mdr.de/nachrichten/sachsen/bautzen/bautzen-hoyerswerda-kamenz/drogen-verkehrskontrolle-lokal-polizei- Waffen-makersdorf-100.html) reports, such measures are part of a three-day drug detection project. The checks took place not only on motorways, but also in other areas between Bautzen and Markersdorf. The high number of identifications makes it clear that there are still many drivers who ignore the laws and thereby endanger themselves and others.
With this ongoing commitment, the police show that road safety is taken seriously and everyone is called upon to act responsibly on the road. Safety not only makes driving more pleasant, but also saves lives.
