Folklore festival in Crostwitz: Culture from all over the world celebrates!

In the period from June 26th to 29th, 2025, the region around Crostwitz, Bautzen and Drachhausen becomes the scene of a special event: the International Folklore Festival promises to become a festival of cultures. Visitors can look forward to the participation of groups from several countries, including Senegal, Colombia, Iran and European nations such as Poland, Croatia, Romania, Czech Republic and Portugal.

The start of this colorful festival begins on Thursday at 6 p.m. with a parade that leads from the Haus der Sorbs to the grain market. The events in Drachhausen will continue on Friday, while Saturday is all about music, singing and dance in Crostwitz. Here the Crostwitz-Special in the evening with Sorbian music and dance will be in the foreground.

cultural diversity and delicious delicacies

A highlight of the festival shows itself in the presentation of the intangible cultural heritage and the programs for the dance and musical offspring. For lovers of Sorbian cuisine there are traditional dishes such as the Sorbian wedding soup and the ox on the spit. New this year is the Gärtner/Gruttke participant farm, which offers two variants of the Sorbian Langos.

Another exciting aspect is the ARAZ Illi-Illi group from Iran, which has already received its visa for the departure, but is waiting for the entry permit to Germany. This illustrates the challenges with which participants from different parts of the world are confronted and shows how important the intercultural exchange is in such events.

a festive final

Sunday starts with a multilingual festival service, followed by a new parade and thematic programs that underline the cultural diversity of those present. The festival finally ends with a grand finale on the main stage, where all participants can present their talents again.

In addition, the introduction of a “selfie wall” is expected for festival goers as a new attraction, which enables memories to be captured in an impressive way.

This festival is not only a platform for the exchange of cultural traditions, but also a step to strengthen the community and to promote the connection between generations. Festivals like this are essential to preserve and pass on the cultural heritage and enable people of all ages to actively participate in cultural life.

Overall, the international folklore festival is an important event that not only celebrates local culture, but also offers a stage for intercultural dialogue. Further information on other upcoming festivals can be found at cioff while the Baltica Festival promotes a similar spirit of cultural exchange in Riga by preserving participants from different continents.
