Fresh enjoyment from the region: TanteEmma2go gets off to a successful start!

Something innovative is happening in the Bautzen region: The “TanteEmma2go” initiative brings fresh, regional products directly to people. Nancy Römer and Maria Stiller have become self-employed with their food distribution and rely on a vending machine that supplies the villages and towns in the district with high-quality food. The idea came about when Römer observed that many local shops were closing and there were fewer and fewer options for basic daily supplies. This is how the decision was made to fill this gap with a vending machine that offered high-quality and regional products. The first machine was finally installed in 2025 after months of searching for a supplier and now works perfectly, as Römer reports.  MDR reports.

But what can you buy in the vending machine? A colorful range of regional delicacies: from yoghurt and cheese from Krabat Milchwelt in Kotten, to preserved specialties from the Domanja farm in Hoske, to refreshing juices from Kekila in Lawalde. Meat, baked goods, honey and eggs from the area are also available. The goal of the two founders is clear: to revive the supply of good, regional food. They hope that the concept will become more established in the coming months and that the awareness of the machine can be increased through various measures, such as signs on the street. My Bernsdorf reports.

From concept to implementation

The journey to implementing the machine was not an easy one. Finding the right vending machine supplier was difficult, which meant long delivery times. Solutions were sought for several months until the machine could finally be set up. However, the response in the first phase was lower than the first launch a year ago. Nevertheless, Römer and Stiller are optimistic: They are working hard to arouse the public's interest and win new customers.

They are not alone: Interest in additional “AuntEmma2go” machines in other Upper Lusatian communities is growing. Numerous inquiries confirm that there is a need for such regional contact points. Nancy Römer, who also runs a healing practice in Bernsdorf, has invested her own funds in the project, but is also looking for donations to support the project. All donations go directly to putting the first machine into operation without any deductions. Information is available for those interested to assist. EconStor offers an interesting perspective.

The efforts of Römer and Stiller are being followed with excitement by the community and local people. The implementation of the project is a bold step towards a better supply of local food, which could certainly prove fruitful in the region.
