Ingrid Urbantke: Supporting young talents is celebrated for 80 years!

On July 22, 2025, the art scene in Laubusch celebrates a very special occasion: Ingrid Urbantke turns 80 and looks back on an impressive life that is all about art and promoting young talent. Already in their childhood floral patterns, play of colors and designing with glass lenses blew their creative skills. This was just the beginning of a long artistic journey that led her to the hearts of people through many stations. From 1962 to 1965 she completed an apprenticeship as a technical draftsman and studied painting from 1970 to 1973 at the Dresden University of Applied Sciences, Cottbus branch.

In 1976 she took over the children's, painting and drawing circle in the cultural center "John Schehr" in Laubusch, creating a place where creativity and community are very important. Here young artists can let off steam their creativity, and the annual exhibitions at the Lausitz Center in Hoyerswerda are among the highlights for the participants. Ingrid Urbantke created a relaxed atmosphere for her students after the school day - a real retreat where they could experiment with lively motifs, including pets and self -portraits.

a legacy of creativity

whether in the design of a bus stop or painting a Litfaßs column, Ingrid Urbantkes Engagement in the Laubusch cultural work between 1986 and 1992 and its membership in the Association of Free Cultural Work Hoyerswerda since 1992 has testified to their tireless use for the promotion of art. Your initiatives made it possible for many young people to find an artistic career. So the memories and the influence that Ingrid has exerted on their students are imperishable.

Ingrid Urbantke has received numerous awards in her life, including the "Golden Rose" in 1980 and the "Joker in Volunteering" in 1997. These honors are not only a recognition of her artistic skills, but also of her voluntary commitment, which goes back for many years. Her family, including husband Hugo and the sons Armin and Karsten, have played a significant role in their development.

The exhibition "Our Lausitz"

currently the "Children's and Youth Mal and drawing circle Laubusch" proudly shows the exhibition entitled "Our Lausitz" in the Hoyerswerda adult education center. Wochenurier.de informs that pictures from the Reiterhof Klein Partwitz and the garden city of Erika from the past 47 years can be admired. This exhibition runs until February 2024 and testifies to the continuous work that Ingrid Urbantke has done since it took over the circle in 1976. Karla Kümmig from the Volkshochschule praised Ingrid Urbantkes on the vernissage, while a flute trio of the Hoyerswerda music school accompanied the event.

The weekly meetings in the Kulturhaus Laubusch are still a valuable opportunity for children and young people to discover their artistic talents. In the past, too, former circle members, such as Mark Buscha and Anke Lindner, have actively participated in the restoration of artistically designed glass panes in the mourning hall. Together, the group regularly designs the home town with creative projects.

Ingrid Urbantke not only passed on her love for painting, but also created a community that appreciates creativity and art. Today her legacy is recognized, and the appreciation of her life works is more than deserved, because she understood how to spark the fire of art in many hearts.
