District Council Bautzen agrees for a strong transport association!

In East Saxony, exciting developments in the field of public transport are underway. The merger of the two transport associations Zvon and Zvoe is just around the corner. The district council of Bautzen will soon decide on this important step, while the district council Görlitz has already agreed with a narrow majority. According to Radio Lausitz , the concerns in the district of Bautzen are less than in Görlitz.

The planned merger aims to eliminate the tariff limit in the district and to introduce a uniform composite tariff. However, this should not be done immediately, but only in a few years. Commuters in particular could benefit from this merger, because the district administration sees clear advantages, for example when electrifying the railway line from Dresden to Görlitz.

advantages for the region

The merger also promises a further development of tourist offers, such as the narrow-gauge railways and the popular euro-neisse ticket. The project is supported by a one-time start-up financing of four million euros from the Free State of Saxony, as also the Sächsische State government executed.

Already on August 9, 2024, the decision to merge was made by the Zvon association meeting. This transport network is responsible for the district of Görlitz and parts of the old district of Bautzen, while the Zvoe covers the old district of Kamenz, the districts of Meißen as well as the Saxon Switzerland-Osterzgebirge and Dresden.

a uniform system for all

The big goal behind the merger is the reorganization of local public transport in the region to create synergies and increase the level of performance of the bus and rail range. The guidelines for the upcoming negotiations include the distribution of future income and grants as well as the assumption of the staff. It is also ensured that the Bautzen location is preserved and a contact point in Görlitz is set up. Particular attention is paid to the narrow-gauge railway Zittau Court Oybin Court of Jonsdorf, whose operation is to be guaranteed.

Another challenge remains the retention of the existing cross-border tariff offers, such as the Euro-Neisse ticket. With the introduction of the Germany ticket, tariff hurdles are to be dismantled and uniform systems are to be funded. The Görlitz district administrator Dr. Stephan Meyer emphasizes the need for a negotiation mandate for the merger.

Minister Martin Dulig sees great advantages for the entire region in this new joint public transport from Dresden to Görlitz. The district administrator Udo Witschas sees the merger as an important step to abolish the tariff limit between the allies. Statements that clearly show that an improvement in the connection of East Saxony is being improved. In order to bring the whole thing dry, the merger ultimately must be decided by the district councils of the districts of Bautzen and Görlitz as well as the city council of Görlitz and other bodies.
