Sewing room in Hoyerswerda: Creativity blossoms in the family park!

In Hoyerswerda, the art of sewing is highly valued and kept alive through various initiatives. The local sewing room of the Neighborhood Help Association (NHV), headed by Rosel Buntrock, is a popular meeting place for creative hobby sewers. A total of 15 enthusiasts meet here every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to exchange ideas and sew together. For many years, the sewing room has offered a valuable platform to share experiences and learn new things. Eight donated sewing machines are available for participants, while Rosel Buntrock also offers sewing courses for newcomers. After just four days of three hours each, the participants can safely use the sewing machine.

The sewing room also offers a special opportunity to express your own creativity. On Sunday, June 22nd, the group will sell homemade shopping or staple bags at the “Remmi-Demmi in the Park” event. The materials for this are donated by the population and the proceeds go towards purchasing sewing thread or iron-on fleece. The festival takes place from 2 p.m. in the family park (Street of Peace) in Hoyerswerdaer Neustadt and features many activities such as bouncy castles and craft stations.

The new fabric store “Ellenlang”

A fresh breeze also blows through Kirchstrasse, where Andrea Seibt recently opened her shop “Ellenlang”. On the corner of Lange Straße, bag lovers and fashion enthusiasts will find a large selection of fabrics, especially jersey and cotton, to satisfy their creative hunger. Seibt, who previously ran a similar shop in Kamenz, also brought some of her Dutch and Hungarian fabrics to round out the selection. Many customers from Hoyerswerda had previously made the long journey to Kamenz to stock up on materials. Now you can look forward to high-quality fabrics right on your doorstep.

In addition to the fabrics, Seibt also offers tips on choosing fabrics, working instructions and accessories. She is particularly attracted to young women who want to rediscover sewing. Sewing courses are also being planned to pass on skills and introduce them to the sewing community.
