Topping -out ceremony in Bautzen: 19 barrier -free apartments for the future!
On July 10, 2025, a festive milestone was reached at Paulistraße 29 in Bautzen: the topping -out ceremony for a new apartment block that will offer 19 barrier apartments. The housing cooperative (WBG) Unity of Bautzen is characterized as a client and plans to provide the new apartments in early 2026. The investment amount amounts to around 4.5 million euros, which makes this project an important project in the region. It should be emphasized that the apartments offer different sizes from 59 to 111 square meters and also include large two-room apartments with up to 67 square meters.
These new buildings will not only convince with their size, but also by their modern equipment. The planned apartments offer larger kitchens and modern bathrooms, which gives future residents a lot of space to develop. In addition, an elevator is planned to ensure the accessibility of the apartments-a necessary prerequisite, consider that less than 2.5 % of the 37 million apartments are considered "barrier-reduced", such as nullbarriere.de.
building history and future outlook
The planning of this construction project began in 2019 and 2020, but the project had to be long in coming due to search for land and increasing construction prices. In the end, the construction started in September 2024. This shows how important it is to also respond to sustainability and social needs when designing living space. There are currently over four times as many interested parties as available, which underlines that the need for living space in Bautzen is extremely high.
A special focus of the construction project is on adaptation to the needs of all possible residents. "Barrier -free living" is an essential prerequisite for more and more people. Therefore, the construction project fulfills all the standards that ensure that access to the apartments and freedom of movement remain preserved within it. This also corresponds to the requirements of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which urges the removal of barriers in housing construction.
accessibility in the building code
The implementation of these standards in Germany is often inadequate, since economic interests are often placed on the needs of people with impairments. Nevertheless, there is a positive development, especially as part of this project, where barrier -free living is not just an option, but a basic requirement. The development in Bautzen could serve as a supply model for similar projects in other federal states and thus to implement appropriate living standards for all citizens: contribute to the inside.
A common goal remains to shape the living space in Germany in such a way that it is open to everyone - regardless of their skills - and promotes a self -determined life. With such important projects such as the new building in Bautzen, the WBG unit Bautzen sets a strong sign in this direction that can encourage others.
