Danger of forest fires in Saxony: No entry allowed - this is how you protect yourself!

The forests in northern Saxony are currently on high alert because the forest fire warning level has been raised to level 5. This particularly affects the districts of Görlitz, Bautzen, Meißen and Northern Saxony. With the arrival of a new high pressure area, not only temperatures but also the risk of forest fires climb to an alarming level. A look at the last few weeks shows that there have already been several major fires in the region, including near Bad Lausick and in southern Brandenburg. The causes are often of human origin, as around 75% of forest fires in Saxony are caused by human activity, as MDR reports.

Given this worrying situation, it is urgently necessary that citizens adhere to the rules in force. Since October 1, 2009, the release of sky lanterns has been strictly prohibited in the Free State of Saxony. Open fires are also prohibited all year round, regardless of the risk of forest fires. Whether smoking, grilling or campfires - all of this can quickly lead to devastating fires in the approaching drought. The local authorities appeal to citizens' common sense, and the Wald Sachsen informs that violations can be punished with severe fines of up to 1,000 euros.

Prohibited activities and their consequences

It's not just open fires that increase the risk of forest fires. Driving on forest paths with vehicles is also prohibited all year round. The forest legislation provides clear provisions that must be strictly followed. A violation can not only result in fines, but also create dangerous situations for the fire department and the public, especially if access routes are blocked.

The weather forecasts do not promise any relief for the time being, but the German Weather Service is predicting rain for Saxony from Monday night. The situation is only expected to calm down on Monday and Tuesday. Until then, it is important to act carefully and responsibly. Extreme heat and extremely low rainfall make the forests extremely vulnerable.

For many citizens in the region, the current situation is alarming. An illegal fire was also discovered at a popular excursion destination, the water lily pond in Coswig. This clearly shows how important it is to follow the rules and not risk a fire. Further violations could result in the fire department being called out again.

Behavior in the event of a risk of forest fire

Given the current situation, everyone is advised to avoid the vulnerable forest areas. For warning levels 4 and 5, it is advisable not to leave the main routes and if you see a fire, immediately inform the fire department on number 112. Where there is a fire, quick action is required - everyone can help minimize the risk and protect our forests.
