Chemnitz inspires: 50 new trainees and students get started!

On Monday, September 1st, 2025, it's that time again: The city of Chemnitz invites you to a welcoming event for new trainees and students. At 10 a.m. Mayor Ralph Burghart welcomes around 50 young talents who are starting their professional careers. The event takes place in the city council hall of the town hall at Markt 1. Media representatives have the opportunity to take part in this important event.

There is great excitement because a new phase of life is now beginning for many young people. A total of around 650 applicants applied for the various training positions, which underlines the interest in a professional future in Chemnitz. Below is an overview of the new trainees and students:

Diverse training offerings

  • 11 Studierende im gehobenen allgemeinen Verwaltungsdienst (Bachelor of Laws)
  • 2 Studierende in Sozialpädagogik (Bachelor of Arts)
  • 1 Studierender der Geomatik
  • 1 Studierender im Bauingenieurwesen
  • 24 Verwaltungsfachangestellte
  • 2 Fachangestellte für Bäderbetriebe
  • 2 Gärtner:innen (Fachrichtung Garten- und Landschaftsbau)
  • 4 Notfallsanitäter:innen
  • 1 Tierpflegerin
  • 2 Straßenbauer

In total, around 160 young specialists will be trained in Chemnitz in September 2025. The city relies on a wide range of training occupations and tries to meet the need for qualified young people and increase the chances of being taken on after training. Information for those interested in vocational training or dual study in 2026 can be found at karriere.chemnitz.de/bildung-studium.

Dual studies: An attractive option

The dual study program is very popular in Chemnitz. School leavers have the opportunity to choose between different study programs that combine theory and practice. The courses cover areas such as technology, IT, social work, design and business. As a result, students not only gain theoretical knowledge, but also gain valuable practical experience.

Particularly noteworthy is the training-integrated model, in which complete training is completed during the course of study and a double qualification is therefore possible. In contrast, the practice-integrated model enables professional practice through internships. Universities such as the IU International University, the West Saxon University of Zwickau, the Glauchau State Studies Academy and the Mittweida University offer these programs.

Quality of life in Chemnitz

The cost of living in Chemnitz is low, which also makes the city attractive for students. A one-room apartment (30 m²) costs around 200 to 250 euros per month. Alternatively, student dormitories or shared apartments are available. Popular districts for students are the Lutherviertel, the center, Kaßberg and Adelsberg.

The training occupations offered as part of the dual study program are diverse: companies such as AXA, Deutsche Bank, Siemens and thyssenkrupp are constantly looking for new talent. After successful completion, graduates have numerous career opportunities in the areas of IT, technology, commerce, business and healthcare.

Chemnitz, formerly known as Karl Marx City for 37 years, has developed into a center for training and further education in recent years. Year after year, the city strives to optimize training offerings and give young people a perspective.
