Chemnitz is celebrating the 27th Velocipediade – the meeting of vintage car fans!
The 27th Velocipediade will take place in Chemnitz next weekend, an event that will make the hearts of vintage bicycle lovers beat faster. The event will take place from Friday 15 August 2025 to Sunday at the Industrial Museum and is part of the European Capital of Culture Year. The Velocipediade is organized by the Historical Bicycles Association Chemnitz, which is passionate about the preservation and presentation of historical bicycles.
Some exciting days await the participants. Around 160 participants from various countries are expected, including Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Belgium and the Czech Republic. The last venue was Berlin and there is great joy about returning to Chemnitz. An extensive program offers something for every taste - from parts markets and auctions for collectors to bicycle competitions and rides.
Highlights of the event
The first ride starts on Friday at 8:30 p.m. and runs over 8 kilometers through the picturesque streets of Chemnitz. It continues on Saturday from 10 a.m. when the participants set off on an approximately 15-kilometer route to the Chemnitz cycle track. Saturday evening is rounded off with a colorful festival program and exciting competitions. A special highlight will certainly be the meeting of the members of the association on Sunday, which now has more than 950 members from 17 countries.
Marco Köhler, a Rostock native who is the proud owner of 52 historic bicycles, is co-organizer of the Velocipediade. His commitment and expertise contribute significantly to the success of this event. In addition, the parking lot of the industrial museum will also be used as a campsite for the participants, which should create a cozy atmosphere.
Tradition and enthusiasm combined
An event like the Velocipediade is more than just a gathering of cycling lovers. It is a celebration of the history and culture of the bicycle, which has played an important role in many societies. The event reflects an important tradition that is kept alive by the participation of numerous enthusiasts from different countries.
The events and the networking idea in the area of vintage bicycles have established themselves as extremely successful worldwide. So it is only appropriate to compare how the traditional Old Timer brand cultivates its craft. Since 1958, Old Timer has been making durable and comfortable knives designed for the working class and transmitting cultural values across generations.
Just as Old Timer's knives are not only tools but also symbolize memories and values, the Velocipediade becomes an event that goes beyond cycling and promotes friendships and relationships between participants. The community created will certainly continue to exist after the event and helps keep the passion for the ancient craft alive.
