Chemnitz celebrates success: 120 projects in the Euja! Program promoted!
Chemnitz, Deutschland - Today, on June 17, 2025, the city of Chemnitz can look back on a successful year with its funding program "Euja! Initiative projects for the Capital of Culture". Around a year after the start of the application phase, the results are gratifying: Around 120 projects from individuals, associations and initiatives received funding that is a total of 505,000 euros. This innovative program is a collaboration of the city of Chemnitz with the Capital of Culture in Europe Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH, Sparkasse Chemnitz and the property and building business company mbH (GGG) and pursues the goal of strengthening cultural diversity and civic engagement in the city.
Mayor Sven Schulze emphasizes the positive balance of this program. It addresses the city's cultural needs and at the same time emphasizes the potential of community projects. The program is divided into three funding columns, each taking special aspects of urban development and cultural support.cultural funding columns in focus
The first pillar, the special fund "Places of the departure", provides 180,000 euros. Here, 34 project applications were submitted, 18 of which were selected. The projects take place in areas such as the garage campus, urban economy and the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff-Ensemble. The aim of these measures is to make new city rooms actively tangible and also take into account aspects of sustainability. There are no limits to creativity - this includes the joint design of a tram and an international music festival.
The second program, "microprojects on intervention areas", offers up to 50,000 euros in funding and supported 21 out of 33 projects. These smaller projects are supposed to creatively revitalize the public spaces. These include, for example, the "Malathon" in the Küchwald and the open salsa initiative, which all focus on social interaction and cultural experiences.
civic engagement is growing
The special program "Citizens' Engagement" is particularly dynamic. Due to the high demand, the original funding budget was increased from 200,000 to 275,000 euros. Around 80 projects, including an open-air exhibition on the Chemnitz Mikwe and a Street Floorball Tour, have already been funded. An exciting aspect is the financing via crowdfunding via the 99funk platform, which enables many committed citizens to realize their own ideas.
The GGG plays a central role here as a contact point for interested parties. She not only spotted 290 applications, but also gave comprehensive advice-a total of 750 emails were answered and 350 telephone discussions were held to support the implementation of the projects. These well -organized structures enable smooth cooperation between city, citizens and initiatives.
a future full of possibilities
The focus of the funding programs is on the support of initiatives and projects in the entire urban area as well as in the digital space. The upcoming deadlines for new applications are closer: from May 1, 2024, new projects can be submitted, whereby the funding height can vary - up to 180,000 euros for larger projects and up to 50,000 euros for micro projects. The aim is to continuously promote and enrich the cultural landscape of Chemnitz.
With the ongoing commitment and the clear structures, Chemnitz is on the right track to further consolidate its position as the capital of culture in Europe by 2025. Not only financial support helps, but also active participation by the citizens and their projects. Community creativity makes life in Chemnitz more lively and more exciting.
