Chemnitz sets dance record: 1,050 participants experience ballet heights!

History was made in Chemnitz, the European Capital of Culture 2025, on June 21, 2025. Around 1,050 dance-loving participants gathered in the city center to take part in the Guinness World Record attempt for the largest and longest dancing ballet class in the world. It started at 10:00 a.m. and participants, ranging from little girls in tutu to older dancers, did their best to dance for an impressive 47 minutes.

The organizer, Sabrina Sadowska, the festival and ballet director, and her team had really created something great. There were no classic ballet bars, but instead there were construction fences and barriers that created the creative dance environment. Live music from a pianist added to the festive atmosphere and ensured that participants found their rhythm.

A community project with deep meaning

This world record attempt was more than just a competition. He stood for the lived participation of the community and the unifying power of art. Dance is not just movement, but also an expression of community and solidarity. The event was part of the TANZ MODERNE TANZ festival, which wanted to make the power of dance visible in the community. All ages and levels were welcome, and the focus was on having fun dancing.

The previous record required 1,600 participants. The good news: the world record has been broken! Confirmation from Guinness World Records should be available soon. This event is not only a success for the dancers, but also highlights the importance of art and culture to the region.

A cultural sign for the future

Not only was the event a local spectacle, it also had a larger significance. Chemnitz has established itself as the European Capital of Culture 2025 and is thus setting an example that goes beyond Saxony. Art and culture can trigger lasting changes in the world we live in, and this is happening in full swing here in Chemnitz. This approach is supported by tax funds and federal funds that promote culture and media.

The commitment to culture should not only enrich cultural life, but also help to mark West Saxony as a livable and productive region on the European map. Those responsible agree: such projects contribute to the future of the industrial region and promote a sense of community, which is particularly important today.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this unique event! It is clear that dance in Chemnitz is not just an art form, but an important part of the community and identity. Cologne residents, maybe you'll stop by future events and dance along!
