TSV Germania Chemnitz 08, founded on July 1, 2008 by the merger of the traditional clubs SV Germania Chemnitz and TSV 1950 Chemnitz, has a long history. The association's roots go back to the company sports communities Motor Germania and Motor Spinnbau, which were successful in the GDR league. From 1973 to 1975 the team played in the second highest league of the GDR.
