Discover Chemnitz: museums, highlights and barrier -free entrances!

Stefan-Heym-Platz 109, 111 Chemnitz, Deutschland - Chemnitz, the dynamic city in western Saxony, has made a name for itself as "Saxon Manchester". This city, which originally started as a medieval trading settlement, developed into an important industrial center in Germany in the 19th century. Today Chemnitz combines elegant historical architecture with exciting modern urban development and offers a rich cultural landscape with numerous museums that focus on art, history and technology. A true highlight on this is the State Museum of Archeology, SMAC for short, which is located in the Schocken department store on Stefan-Heym-Platz.

The SMAC not only presents important exhibitions on archeology, but is also a place for everyone who wants to delve into the history of the region. The opening times are from Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday even until 8 p.m. However, Monday is a day of rest.

admission prices and accessibility

The admission prices are more than fair: for the permanent exhibition, adults pay 8 euros and reduced 5 euros, while families with a family card are allowed in for 12 euros. There are also reduced prices for the special exhibition. And for children up to 16 years, admission is even free.

The SMAC's accessibility is particularly noteworthy. Access is well prepared for all visitors: barrier -free entrance, elevators and even a free audio guide for blind and visually impaired. In addition, folding wheelchairs and walkers are available so that everyone can enjoy the exhibitions. The Weißen Stock e.V. offers an accompanying service for blind and visually impaired people on registration. This ensures that nobody really stays outside here. Further information can be found on the museum's website.

How do I get to the vehicle museum?

If you want to visit another exciting museum in Chemnitz, the vehicle museum is recommended. There are several ways to get there. A simple variant is the journey by train to Chemnitz Central Station. From there it is only a few steps to the Hauptbahnhof-Dresdner Straße stop, from where the bus line 31 leads directly to the vehicle museum-this means excluding!

Alternatively, you can also take tram line 23 from the central stop. All you have to do is get off at the Marianne-Brandt-Straße stop and run a little. A third option is to drive from the regional train to Chemnitz Mitte and to complete a short walk to the museum.

The vehicle museum has a lot to offer and can also be visited barrier -free. Infotres and health insurers are easily accessible here, so the visit will be a pleasure for everyone.
