Speed controls and construction sites: This is what Chemnitz can expect in November!
The coming week will be characterized by important traffic measures in Chemnitz. Not only are speed controls on the agenda, but also numerous construction sites that affect the city's streets and paths. According to the city authorities, a total of four control weeks for speed measurements are scheduled from November 3rd to 28th. Checks are carried out particularly frequently on Oberfrohnaer Straße, which is the focus of attention throughout the entire period. Other locations include Adalbert-Stifter-Straße, Emilienstraße and Klaffenbacher Straße. These measures aim to increase road safety and remind local drivers to comply with speed limits, as chemnitz.de reports.
But what will happen to road traffic during construction work? In Chemnitz-Rottluff, extensive construction work will begin on Friday, November 22nd, which will result in a complete closure of Kalkstrasse. This measure will last until at least Monday, November 25th. Drivers are asked to use the diversion via Trützschlerstraße and Limbacher Straße to Oberfrohnaer Straße. In addition, there will be restrictions on Annaberger Straße during the canal work from Monday, October 30th, which will remain in place until December 20th.
New premium cycle path under construction
Another exciting project that is being pushed forward in Chemnitz at this time is the expansion of the Wüstenbrand-Chemnitz premium cycle path. From Tuesday, October 31st, work will begin on a 185 meter long bridge structure on Kalkstrasse. Interestingly, the first section of the bridge will be lifted on Thursday without closing Kalkstrasse. The entire project, which started on July 1, 2023, is expected to be completed by the end of October 2025.
Overview of existing construction sites
In addition to the traffic measures mentioned, there are many other construction sites that shape the streetscape in Chemnitz. From Monday, Hainstrasse and Hofer Strasse will also be affected by partial or full closures. For the construction of the premium cycle path and the urgently needed canal work, a diversion via the surrounding streets will be unavoidable in the next few weeks. Residents and commuters in particular should prepare for correspondingly longer journey times. Day24 has provided comprehensive information on this.
Traffic statistics as a basis
The traffic situation is not only important locally, but is also influenced by statistics at the national level. The “Traffic in Numbers” work published by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure annually discloses data and trends on mobility and traffic. Here, road users can understand how daily mobility behavior is developing and what investments are being made in the infrastructure. bmv.de provides exciting insights.
The coming weeks will be a challenge for all road users in Chemnitz. However, one thing is clear: increased speed controls and important construction work are working on the safety and future viability of traffic routes.
