Green specialist associations come together: Chemnitz becomes a conference stronghold!
It will be green in Chemnitz next week! The Federal Congress of Green Associations will take place from June 25th to 28th, 2025, and around 150 representatives from various areas are expected to attend. Mayor Michael Stötzer invites you to a reception on Thursday, June 26th at 6 p.m. in the Green Salon and the foyer of the Chemnitz town hall. On this special evening, around 100 participants will come together to discuss nature-based developments in the city.
The motto of the congress speaks volumes: “Develop the city naturally: nature-based – species-rich – climate-adapted”. Friday will be particularly exciting and will be dedicated to the exchange about sustainable urban development. Topics such as the planning and maintenance of urban greenery, artificial intelligence in the design process and biodiversity in landscape architecture are discussed. The program also includes lectures by Michael Stötzer and Peter Börner, who will contribute their perspectives to the discussion.
Chemnitz – European Capital of Culture
Chemnitz was named European Capital of Culture in 2025, a title that brings the city not only honor but also responsibility. Under the motto “C the Unseen – See what lies hidden” the importance of green spaces, which is already very important in the city, is to be further emphasized. The city has made a name for itself through innovative urban green projects, and the congress will provide an opportunity to send further signals for technical and political developments. The event is organized by the German Garden Office Managers' Conference, and the City of Chemnitz's Parks Department also actively supports the preparation and implementation.
Excursions and training courses
Saturday will be rounded off with excursions through the new park at Pleißenbach, which will allow participants to experience the practical implementation of the concepts presented up close. The training is also recognized by the NRW Chamber of Architects with 7 points, which makes the event even more attractive. Anyone planning to stay overnight should hurry up as demand for accommodation is high. Hotel allotments can be reserved under the password “BuKo 2025” until April 30, 2025.
Setting the course for the future of urban greenery
Exciting events will continue in July! On July 3rd and 4th, the Association of German Tree Nurseries (BdB) invites you to its transformation congress “Roots & Visions: Urban Green of the Future” in the flagship project Grüner Bunker St. Pauli. This congress will particularly address the challenges of climate change for urban areas and show ways in which municipalities can design their green strategies for the future.
A look at the speakers shows that top-class experts such as Prof. Antje Stokman from HafenCity University Hamburg and Eva Kähler-Theuerkauf from the Zentralverband Gartenbau e.V. will take part in the discussion. The aim is to emphasize the important role of green infrastructure - from parks to urban forests - in cities' climate resilience.
These two events provide a comprehensive picture of how green development in cities is not only possible but also necessary. Whether at the Federal Congress or the Transformation Congress, Chemnitz will undoubtedly be the focus of its future as a Capital of Culture when it comes to finding sustainable solutions for urban life.
