Last weekend, June 16, 2025, Chemnitz offered a very special spectacle. As part of the Capital of Culture Initiative 2025, the eagerly awaited Kosmos Festival took place, which boasted numerous events and a colorful supporting program. As the city transformed into a creative hub, numerous clubs opened their doors for rousing after-show parties, ensuring a night to remember.

The grand finale of the festival was under the motto “Kosmos cosmic afterglow” and lasted from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while jazz fans were able to enjoy a special concert from 11 a.m. At the same time, a picnic brunch concert took place on the idyllic castle pond island - a real highlight if the weather and the good mood cooperated.
Chemnitz 2025: A cultural hotspot
The activities as part of the Kosmos Festival are just the beginning of what Chemnitz is planning for 2025. Under the motto “C the Unseen,” the city will invite visitors to discover hidden treasures. With around 200 projects and over 1,000 events, Chemnitz has its finger on the pulse and has big plans.
A very special highlight will be the exhibition of the famous Norwegian painter Edvard Munch, which will take place in the Chemnitz Art Collections. Munch, who was in Chemnitz in 1905, created several iconic works during his stay, which are now being made available to a wide audience. An art trail, the “Purple Path”, will also lead through the region and present national and international works of art. Names such as Tony Cragg, Sean Scully and James Turrell feature prominent works within this initiative.
With more than 30 museums participating in the “Museum Circle” based on the famous composer John Cage with exhibits, Chemnitz is definitely on the way to establishing itself as a center of culture and creativity.
