Chemnitz Creative Axis: Looking back on three years of urban development!
In the coming days, an important chapter of urban development will have its ceremonial closing event in Chemnitz. On November 20th from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., the city invites you to look back on three creative years in urban development. The venue is the Stadtwirtschaft at Jakobstrasse 46. Not only will the event take stock, but it will also look ahead to the future.
What has been achieved? The city of Chemnitz together with Kreatives Chemnitz e. V. can look back on successful projects that were supported by the federal funding program for Sustainable Inner Cities and Centers (ZIZ). The focus of development was on the Brühl, Straße der Kulturen and Sonnenberg districts. The disposal fund enabled new uses in shops and numerous structural upgrades in public spaces, including innovative street furniture. These measures were initiated by representatives of the city as well as actors from business, culture and civil society.
A look back at creative impulses
During the event, the results of recent years will be presented, including the special city laboratories such as the “experimental kitchen” and the “vectorlab”. Here, citizens and creative minds were able to actively participate and contribute their ideas. There are also spotlights on important measures that significantly influenced urban development.
A convivial ending is also provided: snacks, drinks and music offer space for exchange between guests and project partners. In addition to representatives of the city, funding agencies and local actors are also invited to reflect and celebrate the path of urban development together.
Municipal funding at a glance
The funding opportunities offered by federal urban development funding are as diverse as the projects. This has been supporting sustainable urban development in Germany for over 50 years. In 2024, an impressive 790 million euros will be available for various programs. The aim is to strengthen inner cities and town centers, to upgrade socially disadvantaged neighborhoods and to create urban development structures that are compliant with climate protection. From 2020, for example, the implementation of climate protection measures will be a prerequisite for all funding programs.
The federal programs include, among others, “Living Centers”, “Social Cohesion” and “Growth and Sustainable Renewal”. Part of the budget is reserved for the federal ZIZ program, which supports many cities and municipalities with up to 5 million euros per project.
In summary, it can be said that the city of Chemnitz is looking forward to exciting change and the closing event offers an excellent opportunity to appreciate the diverse developments of the past few years and to look into the future together. Whether on a small scale or through large funding projects – there is still a lot of potential for the future of the city.
