L’Osteria conquers Saxony: New restaurants in Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig!
L’Osteria has landed a big deal in Saxony and is opening three new locations in Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig. This project was implemented by Schwitzke Project from Düsseldorf and is part of a strategic growth initiative for the company, which now has over 200 locations in Europe. A good knack for the Italian lifestyle and large portions, advertised at a fair price, make L’Osteria particularly popular with visitors.
The opening in Chemnitz took place in February 2025. An impressive location at Rosenhof with an area of 475 square meters was created here. The structural challenges were not to be underestimated: During the renovation work, around 80 breakthroughs had to be made in the solid concrete of a former GDR prefabricated building. This extensive work testifies to the complexity of the interior work, which was carried out under special structural conditions.
Reopening on the main street in Dresden
At the beginning of April, another restaurant opened its doors in Dresden. On the main street, L’Osteria provided everything needed for a gastronomic experience on 500 square meters. The construction work only took 13 weeks and, in addition to floor and wall work, also included careful coordination of the partners for kitchen, ventilation and refrigeration technology. A great success that only increases the anticipation of the new gastronomic offering in the city.
Leipzig's culinary delights in the Höfen am Brühl
The finale was the opening in Leipzig, which was planned for the end of May 2025. Here, the new restaurant extends over a generous 940 square meters, of which 540 square meters are allocated to the restaurant area itself. Due to the international German gymnastics festival, construction was shortened to just nine weeks at the customer's request. Here too, weekend work and night shifts were used in order to be able to open on time. Wolfgang Sigg, Managing Director of Schwitzke Project, highlighted the construction challenges as well as the importance of precise planning and good coordination in a press release.
However, the catering industry is not only faced with exciting new openings, but also with its challenges. The last few years have left their mark: closures, shortages of skilled workers and rising prices are taking their toll. According to an IW study, the industry has lost the most employees in relative terms, and many restaurateurs are having enormous difficulty maintaining the salaries of their employees while at the same time operating costs are rising.
VAT on food and drinks will increase from 7% to 19% from January 1, 2024 - a move that is likely to lead to price increases. This change will also bring the popular demand for out-of-home catering into focus. The catering industry can only adapt to these necessary changes through creative solutions and transparent communication with guests.
The expansion of L’Osteria can be seen all the more as a positive example of the courage to further develop in a challenging market. It remains to be seen how the new locations in Saxony will perform, but the anticipation is great and the chances are not bad!
