New construction site drama in Chemnitz: traffic-focused traffic jams are looming!

There will be a lot of work in Chemnitz from Monday, July 14th. Several new construction sites are slowing down traffic and causing some diversions, which will pose challenges for drivers and pedestrians in the city. The diversions in particular are a hot topic because they always cause dissatisfaction among residents and lead to long traffic jams, especially at peak times.

On the August Bebel Street From Wednesday, July 16th, the area between house numbers 3 and 9 as well as the intersection with Dorfstrasse will be completely closed. This measure is part of the third construction phase for the wastewater connection and is scheduled to last until October 17th. Diversions via Fabrikstrasse, Chemnitzer Strasse and Pleißaer Strasse have been set up.

Important construction sites in the city

The Frankenberg Street will also receive new traffic space restrictions on the roadway out of town from Monday. This is happening as part of Telekom's broadband expansion, which means that parking areas and sidewalks are cordoned off and pedestrians have to move onto the road. The work will last until September 5th.

Hohensteiner Straße is now also increasingly affected: from July 14th there will be a complete closure between Neefestrasse and Mitschurinstrasse. The reason for this is construction work on the city lighting, which should be completed by October 30th. Diversions via Zwickauer Straße and Neefestrasse are planned.

But that's not all! Those too Neefestrasse will be used for roadway renewal from July 14th at 6 p.m. This brings traffic to a standstill in this area, but this measure is still urgently needed.

In addition, there will be a complete closure on Wolgograder Allee between Friedrich-Viertel-Straße and Ernst-Wabra-Straße (Hutholz track crossing). This work will also begin on July 14th and will last until August 3rd, with the overall scheme to be completed by August 15th.

A variety of restrictions

Unritzstrasse will also be completely closed from Friday, July 18th, until September 2nd. This is a coordinated construction project, whereby access to the hospital will only be possible via Riedstrasse from July 18th.

Finally, half of Wittgensdorfer Straße will be closed between July 14th and 18th while broadband expansion needs to be pushed forward here too. Construction work not only affects the streets, but also the pedestrian and cycle paths in the city, which further restricts mobility.

Overall, the number of closed road sections and the changing diversions are expected to continue to cause traffic chaos. It remains to be hoped that construction work will progress quickly in order to improve the situation for all road users and minimize traffic jams.
