Dance highlight in Chemnitz: Odyssey in C conquers the city!
Chemnitz, Deutschland - A fascinating dance event has transformed the Chemnitz city landscape into a vibrant scene for international dance art. The “Odyssey in C” project, organized by the ballet director Sabrina Sadowska, takes place from June 26 to 29, 2025 and not only attracts the local population, but also numerous external visitors. 18 stations are played in the urban space in which over ten dance companies from six different countries present their art. The start is already done today and many visitors have been on their feet since morning to experience the unique performances.
The event is a tribute to literary large works and is based on James Joyces "Ulysses" and Homers "Odyssey". The first stop presented on the picturesque bank beach is the Jamaican Company Cie. L’Acacdco played, which will captivate the spectators with their rousing dance style. Another station is in front of the iconic Karl-Marx-Kopf, where the British Company Chameleon is expected to also show excellent dances. The participation of international groups such as Panama Pictures from the Netherlands or the Lithuanian Nuepiko Dance Company guarantees a colorful spectrum of choreographies and dance styles that range from acrobatics to contemporary dance.
a unique experience for everyone
It is particularly impressive that the event is not only intended for dance lovers. The audience is given the opportunity to collect stamps at various stations in a special stamp book. If you visit at least five stations, you can expect attractive discounts from five to 25 percent on tickets for upcoming performances in the Chemnitz Opera House. There are also opportunities for deeper insights: Interesting discussions between dancers and the audience take place in the foyer of the opera house.
The urban atmosphere is all the more alive through the appearances in everyday, sometimes overlooked places, such as the city pool or the publishing house in the city center. It is about integrating the dance close to the audience and creating new, unexpected encounters that strengthen social interaction. As part of the International Festival for Contemporary and Urban Dance, which is under the motto "C the Unseen", you want to stimulate the audience to participate and open up new perspectives.
an emotional finale
The crowning glory of the stories listed takes place in the opera house, where the performance of Odysseus and Penelope is listed - a story told from the perspective of Penelope. The couple's emotional encounter is expected with great anticipation. At the premiere of the final, Sadowska, barefoot for the final applause, step onto the stage, a picture that symbolizes the dancer's attachment to art and moving history.
This is how the Chemnitz ballet makes this event an unmistakable sign in the region. In times when art and community experience gain in importance, the event sets a strong sign of the cultural offer and the vitality of the city of Chemnitz.
