Things will be really colorful in Chemnitz in July 2025! As part of the European Capital of Culture, there are several impressive theater performances on the program that offer everything that makes the hearts of culture lovers beat faster. Above all, Oscar Wilde's masterpiece “The Picture of Dorian Gray” will be performed on several exciting dates: on July 4th and 5th at 8 p.m. the audience can look forward to a duration of 120 minutes, including an intermission. The story of the young Dorian, who allows himself to be portrayed by a painter and pledges his soul with the desire for eternal youth, is timeless and addresses man's narcissistic megalomania in world literature. Dorian Gray leads an uninhibited life, while his portrait shows the traces of his excesses and becomes increasingly ugly, this is how the Chemnitz Theater describes the material that comes onto the stage here Theater Chemnitz.
But that's not all! The Greifensteine Nature Theater has also come up with a lot of ideas. The deliciously funny “Spamalot” by Monty Python is staged there. The dates are packed: these entertaining productions are scheduled for June 27th at 9 p.m. and June 29th at 5 p.m. Here guests can look forward to an evening full of strange humor and musical interludes.
Political dinner theater and other highlights
A special kind of highlight will be experienced in the Fresstheater: “Mayor’s Silver Wedding” by Andreas Zweigler. Here the audience not only copes with the entertainment on offer, but can also enjoy a delicious menu at the same time! The premiere takes place today, July 3rd at 7 p.m., the fun lasts 180 minutes, so it's a really long evening. The mix of political undertones and humor promises to make viewers reflect and smile - a successful combination!
The Kriebstein lake stage offers the romantic operetta “Gräfin Mariza” by Emmerich Kálmán on July 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 11th and 12th at 6 p.m. This will be presented to the interested audience in a 150-minute piece, which also includes an intermission. The operetta is known for its catchy melodies and stories of love and intrigue full of passion.
With these wonderful theater performances, Chemnitz not only shows its cultural offerings, but also the entire diversity of the performing arts MDR. The city proves once again that it is a real center for art and culture and thus impressively demonstrates its ambitions as part of the Capital of Culture 2025.
