On July 4th and 5th, 2025, the Chemnitz Theater will be coming to the Küchwald stage with a captivating production of the classic “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. The production is about Dorian Gray, who has his portrait painted by a painter and falls in love with his own image. Desiring eternal youth and beauty, Dorian pledges his soul to prevent the image from aging while he lives an uninhibited, selfish life. This play, which MDR describes as a “Gothic novel with rough stone walls and pale faces”, will captivate viewers in a dark but fascinating place. The performance lasts 120 minutes including an intermission and begins at 8 p.m.
The plot of Oscar Wilde's novel, published in 1891, is considered visionary and deals with themes such as self-optimization and the cult of youth. The novel reflects the narcissistic megalomania and remains relevant for the audience Theater Chemnitz, who can look forward to the versatile production. Viewers can eagerly await Dorian's development and the moral conflict that unfolds throughout his selfish life as the portrait shows the traces of his actions.
Operetta and culinary delights in Kriebstein
While the drama in Chemnitz excites people, the lake stage in Kriebstein invites you to celebrate with the operetta “Gräfin Mariza”. This is all about Countess Mariza, who celebrates her fictional engagement and develops an amusing relationship with Tassilo, her property manager. This operetta shines with music and a happy ending and will be performed on July 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 11th and 12th at 6 or 8 p.m. With a duration of 150 minutes, a break is not neglected here either.
Not to be forgotten is the culinary spectacle “Mayor's Silver Wedding Anniversary”, in which Mayor Erich uses his celebrations for his election campaign. The audience becomes part of the party, enjoys a menu and experiences the humorous conflict between Erich and Klara. This event will take place on July 3rd, 25th and 26th at the Fresstheater in Chemnitz and promises an entertaining mix of political elements and tasty dishes.
