Wego VTI celebrates topping-out ceremony in Chemnitz: Focus on digitalization in construction!
On June 17, 2025, Wego Vti celebrated the topping-out ceremony for a new branch in the Kalkstrasse industrial area in Chemnitz. The new building is being built on a spacious site of over 10,000 square meters, not far from the A72 motorway. There will be space for around 4,000 square meters of hall space and an office building with 370 square meters. Wego Vti is pursuing a clear course that focuses on digital services, as Michael Abersfelder, Managing Director of Finance at Wego Vti, emphasizes. These services range from an online shop to an xPress pickup option to WhatsApp communication with customers.
Branch manager Mirko Habich emphasizes the extensive range, which includes drywall and building elements as well as technical insulation, floor systems and tools. Interior construction is currently in full swing and completion is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023. The new branch will open its doors to around 20 new employees at the beginning of 2026.
Preparing for the upswing
Wego Vti is not only busy with construction in Chemnitz, but is also planning strategic investments to prepare for a predicted industry upturn from 2025. According to [FliesenundPlatten](https://www.fliesenund Platten.de/wego-vti- Preparet-sich-auf-aufschwung-vor-11012024), new locations are to be opened and the number of employees increased. While some locations, such as those in Kaiserslautern and Stuttgart, were closed, new branches were opened in Ettlingen and Olching near Munich. There will also be a positive development with the location in Regensburg, as it will be moving in February 2024 and will be expanded at the same time.
Over 30 new vehicles were purchased in 2023 and 42 more are planned for next year. These measures are aimed at an economical logistics approach and sustainable transport, which should have a positive impact on customer service. Wego Vti also plans to hire 26 new trainees in 2024 to attract the qualified specialists of tomorrow.
Challenges of the construction industry
The construction industry has gone through many changes in the past decades. The bauindustrie.de reports on a sustained upswing between 2006 and 2021, which, however, was abruptly stopped in 2022 by the war of aggression on Ukraine and the resulting economic difficulties. Increases in costs, prices and interest rates have put a significant strain on the industry, although there is still a clear need for housing construction and dilapidated infrastructure.
Wego Vti, with its focus on digital services and sustainable solutions, appears to be well positioned to meet these challenges. The upcoming investments and the opening of the new branch in Chemnitz could prove to be strategically valuable when market conditions stabilize again.
