Alfajores from Argentina: sweet passion converses Dresden!

In the pulsating city of Dresden, a new café has conquered the hearts of sweet tooth in the storm. The founders Bettina Zimmermann and Santiago Gomez have their own manufacture for the popular Argentine Alfajores . This unique candy consists of two cookies that are filled with delicious caramel cream - the so -called Dulce de Leche - and are covered with chocolate. Her trip began in Argentina in 2020 when she met in a village during pandemic. While Bettina wrote her bachelor thesis, Santiago already experimented with the production of these sweet delicacies.

Your café "Munay" is not just a place for quick coffee, but also offers space for a holistic experience. With an area of 100 square meters, it serves as a factory, café and place for workshops and tastings. Despite the original plans for the Neustadt, the decision for the location near Schillerplatz was made, since the rents were considered too high. The name "Munay" means "love" and stands for a respectful and sustainable lifestyle.

a taste of Argentina in Dresden

The Alfajores are still relatively unknown in Germany, but the couple has already received a positive response from customers. The range already includes ten different tastes, including raspberry and speculoos. These chocolate cakes, which have their origin in Moorish-Spanish cuisine, are handmade and made from sustainable raw materials. The chocolate comes from environmentally friendly cultivation projects, while the ingredients are largely obtained from regional providers, such as honey from Blasewitz and edible flowers from Leipzig.

For everyone who is curious about the creative combinations, Bettina and Santi have personalizable options on offer: everything is possible from various toppings to individual packaging. A special focus is also on environmentally friendly packaging that is compostable. "It is important to us that our products are not only delicious, but are also made sustainable," explains Bettina.

cultural events and community

In the future, the founders plan to organize Argentine evenings in their café. In addition to live music, there should also be empanadas to bring the diverse Argentine culture closer to a wider audience. The opening times are Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 2 to 6 p.m. In addition, they will be present on various holidays and events, such as at the Loschwitz Christmas market until December 15, 2024 and at the Striezelmarkt the following week.

Alfajores not only have a long tradition in Argentina, where about 70 of these delicacies are consumed per second, but also in other countries such as Spain and the Orient. The origin of the candy is diverse and exciting and goes back to Arab roots. Over the centuries, they have developed in different regions and have become an integral part of Argentine eating culture today. In Dresden, these works of art from the bakery get a very special place through Munay Now.

The next chance to try the products will be realized in mid -January 2024 with the opening of your own shop at Tolkewitzer Straße 6. There are chocolate tastings and workshops that promise unforgettable taste experiences. It remains exciting how Munay Alfajores will develop in the Dresden food scene-it is certain that snacking is not only joy here, but also sense.
